Drama at the Braid Centre In November 2008 the Eco Council and Year 12 Performing Arts class were invited to the Braid centre in Ballymena. They were asked to perform a drama about how Eco Schools changed our school and were officially presented with the Green Flag.

St Mary's Students rise to the Challenge to help others Once again St. Mary’s College took part in the annual Shoebox Appeal and the response was overwhelming. The students were asked to provide a Christmas present in a gift wrapped shoe box and all took great delight in selecting appropriate gifts for people all ages in Croatia and Bosnia. |

Year 10 Students visit Opportunity Europe 2008 at St George's Market Belfast Year 10 students accompanied by Miss Duddy and Mrs Mitchell travelled to St. George’s Market, Belfast to participate in Opportunity Europe. This has become an annual event for schools and is organised by Belfast City Council and The European Commission Office in Northern Ireland. |

Year 10 Students take part in Salsa lessons for European Day of Languages European Day of Languages was recently celebrated in great style in St. Mary’s College, Clady. The Language Department hosted a variety of activities including a poster competition and Euro-Quiz. The highlight of the day, however, was a Salsa Dancing workshop with Mr. Chris Scullion |

St Mary's hit the Premiership 31 Pupils and 6 members of staff from St. Mary’s College, Clady travelled to England for 4 days on Saturday 4th October. The trip included a day in Alton Towers Theme park, a visit to the Trafford Centre and tickets to the Manchester City v Liverpool match at the City of Manchester Stadium. Award Ceremony 2008 St. Mary’s College celebrated its annual Award Ceremony with special guest Mr. Richard Moore, Director of Children in Crossfire. The ceremony opened with the school choir and musicians directed by Mrs. Margaret Watson. Mrs. Clayton, Principal, welcomed guests and students. |

Sports Day 2008 Sports Day was held in St Mary's College on Friday 23rd May 2008. It turned out be a great day and pupils enjoyed a range of events and activities. The highlight of the day was the teachers versus the pupils relay where the last teacher and pupil crossed the line at the same time! |

The Year 14 pupils in St Mary’s Clady ended their seven years with a beautiful Mass organised by their Year Head Mrs. A. Hurson. Every pupil contributed to the occasion making it a very memorable evening. Mass was celebrated by Fr. Crilly who spoke warmly about his connection with the school since he has joined the parish. |

1st Year Hurling Blitz Year 8 boys were victorious against St.Patrick’s Dungannon in the Hurling Final played on 8th May at the Mid- Ulster Sports Arena by a score of 5.3 to 0.2. Scorers for St.Mary’s were Niall Loughlin 3.0, Josh McDonnell 1.1, Matthew Bradley 1.0, James Magee 1.1 and Eunan Shaw 0.1. |

Eco Committee Members of the Eco Committee present Mr. Sam Young with some mobile phones which they collected for recycling. Mr. Young will take these phones to his centre in Larne where they will be fixed by people with learning difficulties.

Eco Committee Recyclable Object Competition The Eco-committee at St. Mary’s recently ran a competition where students were asked to design and create an object with a useful function from recyclable materials. The prize was a bicycle which was kindly donated by Ivan McAllister of IM Bikes Kilrea. The winner was James Duffin from Year 9 who designed a moon rocket. |

Year 14 - Go-Karting Year 14 GCE Travel & Tourism class organised a trip to the Eddie Irvine, Formula One Centre in Bangor on 21st February 2008. This was part of their course; they were solely responsible for organising and conducting a project involving other students in the school. An enjoyable trip was had by all and of course no-one could beat the teachers, as can be seen when Mr McSorley and Mr Boyle collected their trophy. Better luck next time to the students!!! |
