I hope that our school website will give you a flavour of life in St Mary's College. Pupils are the focus in our school - my job and the job of all staff members is to create a school community which supports young people in their learning and prepares them well for adult life. We want our young people to learn and live well.
Students learn not only from taught subjects; they learn important
moral, social and faith values from the behaviour and witness of others.
In St Mary's social responsibility, inclusion, forgiveness and care for others are at the heart of all we do.
St Mary's College is non-selective. Each pupil is welcomed, is asked to aim high by setting personal targets and by working steadily to achieve them. In this way confidence and determination grows. For us excellence is a habit to be cultivated in academic achievements, developing skills, attendance, behaviour, taking responsibility and in leadership. I am delighted with our examination results, our extra-curricular activities, our Eco School commitment and charity work.
In our school, relationships are seen to be very important. We know
that talking and listening to pupils and involving parents or guardians creates a healthy atmosphere where all can flourish. Our pupils have a voice in the School Council but also know that our Pastoral Care system, Counselling service and Youth Worker are there for them at any time.
No school works in isolation - it is part of a wider community. In St Mary's we work closely with our parish communities and with our local Council and community organisations. We also work very closely with our partners in the Rural Learning Partnership - St. Paul's College, St. Patrick's College and St. Colm's High School. Together we work to develop a common approach to providing a wider curriculum choice for all our pupils, to explore career and employment paths and collaborate in raising achievement.
Our school offers a family atmosphere which values the uniqueness
and talents of each pupil. Enjoy the website. I look forward to meeting you at Open Night, or at any other time which suits you.
Best wishes,
Roisin Clayton
Principal
