Sports Day 2008 Sports Day was held in St Mary's College on Friday 23rd May 2008. It turned out be a great day and pupils enjoyed a range of events and activities. The highlight of the day was the teachers versus the pupils relay where the last teacher and pupil crossed the line at the same time! |

The Year 14 pupils in St Mary’s Clady ended their seven years with a beautiful Mass organised by their Year Head Mrs. A. Hurson. Every pupil contributed to the occasion making it a very memorable evening. Mass was celebrated by Fr. Crilly who spoke warmly about his connection with the school since he has joined the parish. Principal Mrs. R Clayton told the pupils to always “Go the extra mile” and asked them sincerely to keep in touch as they set off on their new path. |

1st Year Hurling Blitz Year 8 boys were victorious against St.Patrick’s Dungannon in the Hurling Final played on 8th May at the Mid- Ulster Sports Arena by a score of 5.3 to 0.2. Scorers for St.Mary’s were Niall Loughlin 3.0, Josh McDonnell 1.1, Matthew Bradley 1.0, James Magee 1.1 and Eunan Shaw 0.1.

Eco Committee Recyclable Object Competition The Eco-committee at St. Mary’s recently ran a competition where students were asked to design and create an object with a useful function from recyclable materials. The prize was a bicycle which was kindly donated by Ivan McAllister of IM Bikes Kilrea. The winner was James Duffin from Year 9 who designed a moon rocket. |

Year 14
- Go-Karting Year 14 GCE Travel & Tourism class organised a trip to the Eddie Irvine, Formula One Centre in Bangor on 21st February 2008. This was part of their course; they were solely responsible for organising and conducting a project involving other students in the school. An enjoyable trip was had by all and of course no-one could beat the teachers, as can be seen when Mr McSorley and Mr Boyle collected their trophy. Better luck next time to the students!!! |

Ready Steady Cook On Thursday 7th February, the Home Economics department ran a “Ready Steady Cook Challenge” to raise money for Trocaire. The “celebrity chefs” were Mr Boyle and Mr Toner, assisted by student teachers, Miss Magill, Mr McLaverty and Mr O’Boyle. The event was attended by Year 10 and Year 12 pupils who thoroughly enjoyed watching the “celebrities” in action and tasting the finished products. The event raised £81 for Trocaire and was a great success. Thanks to everyone who participated and supported it. |

Year 12 Social Year 12 held their annual social in the Imperial Hotel, Garvagh on Friday 1st February 2008. Everyone enjoyed a lovely meal, before they danced the night away. An enjoyable night was had by all who attended. |

|
|
Healthy Eating Week took place from February 5th to February 12th. All students in our school were encouraged to choose a healthy option for break and lunch during this week. On Tuesday 5th February students were given the opportunity to taste some of the many healthy options that the school canteen offers every day. This was co-ordinated by Mrs Clerkin and Mrs O’Neill who encouraged students to test out dishes which they would not normally take. It was enjoyed by all those who took part! On Thursday 7th February Junior students were given a presentation by Kerry Parkhill in the morning. Kerry is the school's dietician with the NEELB. Senior students were given a presentation by Eoghan O’Brien in the afternoon. Eoghan is a local pharmacist in Portglenone. He spoke about the importance of a healthy diet and regular exercise. |

Ski Trip On 19th January, 35 pupils and 3 teachers set off for the snowy slopes in Les Sciernes, Switzerland for a fun filled week of adventure on the snow. The weather was fabulous, ideal for skiing. Blue skies were prevalent throughout the week and as there was also a fall of snow the slopes were packed with snow and very little ice. Progress by all pupils was fantastic with everybody taking part in the slalom on the final day. Many of the pupils who took part in this trip described it as the best adventure in their lives and would readily go back for another ski down the slopes. |

Sixth Form Interview Skills Day Staff from Sentinus led a very successful Sixth Form Interview Skills Day in St Mary’s Clady. In the morning students were helped with the skills necessary to prepare for interview including work on application forms and presenting yourself in a positive manner. In the afternoon mock interviews were organised for each pupil followed by feed back on performance. Members of the professional business community including Briege Milner, Brenda Duffin, John Clayton, Karen Trainor, Brigid Duggan, Vincent O’Neill and Joanne Toner acted as facilitators. |

Open Night 2008 St Mary's College held the annual school open night on Wednesday 16th January 2008. Mrs Clayton, Principal, gave a talk in the Assembly hall and afterwards pupils and parents were given a tour of the school. Pupils were invited to take part in activities in every department. |

Visit to St George's Market On Wednesday 14th November, Year 10 pupils along with Miss Duddy and Miss McCloskey spent the day at St George's Market in Belfast, where they took part in several activities linked to Europe and European Languages. The day was very worthwhile and allowed students to see what languages are becoming more present in Northern Ireland today as well as what studying languages can do for you in the future. Demonstration By Livestock &Meat Commission On Tuesday 6th November, Year 10 pupils enjoyed a cookery demonstration by Helen from the Livestock & Meat Commission. Helen cooked Beef Stirfry and Tikka Mince with Savoury rice. Pupils enjoyed sampling the dishes and were keen to get copies of the recipes to try out. |

Children In Crossfire visit St Mary's College, Clady On Tuesday 6th November Year 8 and 10 pupils were invited to a talk given by Mrs Bernie Ryan on behalf of Children in Crossfire. Present during the visit was Fr Manningua who comes from Tanzania and told the pupils all about his home and the difficulties experienced by children living there. This was a very interesting and informative talk and the pupils now hope to try to make a difference to these young children's lives through future fundraising. |

Eco Assembly St Mary’s College Clady held their whole school Eco assembly on Wednesday the 24th October 2007. The aim of the assembly was to high light environmental problems on a world wide scale and to outline how the whole school community could do their bit to help. |

European Day Of Languages St Mary's College recently held a Day Of European Languages. In the morning Year 10 took part in a very successful Euro-Quiz. Year 8 and 9 enjoyed language learning games and songs in both French and Irish in the afternoon. The day came to an end with an impressive but tiresome Ceilí Mór in the Assembly hall. Bhí craic ar dóigh againn! C'était super! |

Staff Coffee Morning A staff coffee morning was organised by Mrs B Clerkin and Mrs A Hurson to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Relief on Friday 21st September. Year 14 Leaving Mass Year 14 held their Leaving Mass in St Mary's College on Tuesday 15th May 2007. Fr O'Reilly officiated at he mass. It was a particularly sad event as this was Fr O'Reilly's last mass in the school. Dermot McPeake and Eimhear Larkin provided the beautiful music for the mass. All Year 14 pupils were able to participate in the mass either by reading a prayer or by bringing up a gift. |

Soccer Trip This year's Soccer Trip was on 27th - 29th April. 40 pupils and 6 teachers went to our hotel on the Friday, it was in Wigan, then on the Saturday we went to the Everton v Man. Utd. match at Goodison Park. It was a brilliant match and Man. Utd won 4-2. Afterwards we went to the Trafford Centre in Manchester, this was a chance for the girls to do a bit of shopping! Next day we went to Old Trafford for a tour around the stadium and the museum. It was a great experience!! |

Forest Run A very successful Forest Run took place in Portglenone Forest in April 2007. All pupils who took part collected money for charity.
Kevin Barrie raised the
most money and was awarded a Derry Jersey for his efforts.
Overall the pupils raised £1800. £3OO went to Habitat for Humanities care of Michaela O'Boyle and the remainder was given to Friends for Romania. Click here to see more photos of the Forest Run
